Artificial Intelligence

Evolving thesis sample introductionsTask: Read these sample introductions for evolving thesis papers. How does each writer introduce and contextualize the working thesis? How does each writer hint at how s/he will qualify the thesis?1.In the article, “The Flight from Conversation”, Sherry Turkle, a professor of the Social Studies of Science and Technology at MIT, raises the assertion that “[individuals] have sacrificed conversation for mere connection” (21). The author argues that people have become so “plugged in” trying to expand their “circle of friends” and form connections through online social interfaces, chats or texts that they have neglected fostering friendships in person through conversing. During her research, Turkle experiences multiple encounters where individuals favor receiving guidance from a source of artificial intelligence rather than a cognizant human. When Turkle contemplates the causes, she discovers that individuals’ desire for control and perfection, as well as their need to constantly be heard, leads them to favor trivial virtual connections over meaningful face-to-face interactions. Underlying the professor’s confident claim is the assumption that virtual connections can’t be as meaningful nor as impactful as face-to-face gatherings. However, this generalization doesn’t always hold true. There are instances where connection can be quite influential. Forgoing certain conversations for online connection can be either beneficial or harmful depending on the type of interaction as well as its intended purpose.2. In the article “Soft Power: Asian-Americans and the Extrovert Ideal,” the writer Susan Cain claims that “Individuals in Asia see themselves as part of a greater whole –– whether family, corporation or community –– and place tremendous value on harmony within their culture.” In other words, Cain indicates that Asians feel they all belong to their family, companies and society, and greatly value cohesion in groups. She assumes that Asian people will sacrifice their interests for the group’s will and harmony in all cases mentioned above. However, to what extent do Asians subordinate themselves to group harmony?3. In the article, “The Not-Invented-Here Bias: Why My Ideas Are Better than Yours”, Dan Ariely, a psychological and behavioral economics professor at Duke University, argues that “the Not-Invented-Here bias can create a higher level of commitment and cause people to follow through on ideas that are their own” (115). Not-Invented-Here bias means that people tend to value their ideas more than others. In other words, Ariely indicates that people are willing to put effort to promote and implement their ideas. For example, when trying to propose some ways that enabled a group of banking executives to save money for the customers, Ariely found that the bankers lacked interest. Afterward, he thought that if he had let them get involved in the process of arriving at solutions, they could have probably adopted those ideas wholeheartedly. However, when expanding and generalizing his thought, Ariely assumes that under any circumstances, people will spend time putting their ideas into practice as long as they understand the ownership of the ideas. Yet, in some cases, people would rather choose to abandon than stick to their ideas. The following paper will consider whether people will always be committed to realize or promote their ideas. For more information on Artificial Intelligence  check on:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artificial_intelligence
