Tips on Writing a Strong Letter of Intent

Given that the Co-op application process is competitive, the following tips will help you to stand out and strengthen your Letter of Intent:

  1. Be Specific: We want to know why you are interested in the Co-op program and what you would like to get out of it. Specific information, such as your career interests, career development goals, strengths, etc., will help us assess your fit with the Co-op program.
  2. Use Examples: Whenever possible, use examples to provide context and details.

Examples of where you gained a certain skill and/or how you have applied it will help us assess your strengths.

  1. Be Thoughtful: Think more broadly and deeply about how and why the Co-op program will help you accomplish your goals. Sure, your Co-op work experience will boost your employability after graduation, but what else will it do?
  2. Goal Alignment: Connect the dots between your present and your future goals and explain how the Co-op program will help you get to where you want to go.
