ENG 205: Composition II, Professor Abouelazm/Manhattan-Paper #1 – Essay – 15 % Due: Week 7 – Monday, July 27, 2020 No emailed submissions Thursday, July 23, 2020 No emailed submissions TOPIC: How does life experience influence the creative work of your writer? (Consider their time period, location, cultural background, life experience, family background, literary work, themes that represent their life and literary work, etc.) Note: This is a very broad question, and you cannot write about everything. I do not want a general biography of your author and a summary of one of their pieces of literary work. Both should be taken into consideration, but I expect you to create a very narrow topic; I hope for critical analysis that revolves around a very specific thesis statement and focused body. Remember, the thesis statement should represent everything you write about in the body of the paper. Hint: I leave this topic wide open for you to decide how you want to go about writing about this person and their work, so what specific point/focus is it that you want me to know? Specifically, incorporate the life, work, how the life appears in the work, and themes that represent the life and work. Remember, each author is different, so let the research guide your process. REQUIREMENTS: Three (3) pages. 3 pages do not include the title page and reference page. Perhaps you want to follow a five (5) paragraph structure. 5 paragraphs that equal 3 pages. APA Style for the entire paper. Reminders: The essay must be typed, be double-spaced, use a 12 point font, and be in the font of Times New Roman. Title page (always title your work/essay). Introductory paragraph that includes a specific thesis statement. Well developed paragraphs that support your specific ideas and build your specific argument. Concluding paragraph that summarizes everything you write about in the essay.

Two (2) in-text citations in the body of your essay. Reference page. You must use at least 2 sources in your process and essay. Submit the paper to Turnitin (20% or less), and turn in a hard copy (2 step process)! Do both! I grade the hard copy! Turnitin only checks for plagiarism! I will not grade the hard copy if you have not submitted the paper to Turnitin! FINALLY: Creativity, research, analysis, content, organization of ideas, cohesion, use of APA Style, and the rules of grammar will be considered during the grading of this essay.
