Read both Nicholas Carr’s essay “Is Google Making Us Stupid?” (Links to an external site.) and Clive Thompson’s “Smarter Than You Think” (Links to an external site.) in They Say, I Say. While they are writing on the same topic, each author reaches a different conclusion. For this response, please answer one of the following questions: How might Nicholas Carr respond to Clive Thompson’s argument that “digital tools help us to see more, retain more, communicate more”? What do you think Carr would say to Thompson’s assertion that “on the balance…what is happening is deeply positive”? Or How might Clive Thompson respond to Nicholas Carr’s argument that “as we come to rely on computers to mediate our understanding of the world, it is our own intelligence that flattens into artificial intelligence”? It should not include your own opinion, but rather the opinions of the two critics. It should be two paragraphs, or at least 300 words long.
