Instructions
Find an article in your local newspaper about a local policy issue that affects you. For example, an article concerning your county’s decision to privatize your trash collection service. Summarize the article and explain how this issue affects you. Is the article neutral? Why or why not? How might you influence this policy in the future?
Be sure to include a scanned copy of the article in your submission in addition to citations. There are several free scannable apps on the market such as Scannable. If printing is an obstacle, you may include a hyperlink to the article. However, if the link breaks or cannot be accessed the burden falls on you to produce that article or to risk losing points.
Articles may not be more than one month old.

The Article on ‘Voting in the Primary Will Be New Experience for Many’, was written in The Coaster on June 25, 2020, by Vin Gopal, Eric Houghtaling, and Joann Downey. In this Primary Election, voting by mail and the delay of the date of the Primary Election, are all changes that have occurred because of the COVID 19 pandemic. This is one of the many changes that has affected our daily lives in ways that were unexpected. The focus of this Election is to maintain safety among the voters.
This is not only happening in New Jersey; it has become a national issue because conservatives argue that removing the voting process from the watchful eyes of the poll workers and other voters creates opportunities for mischief. There is no evidence that mail ballots increase electoral fraud. However, Republicans fear mail balloting will increase votes for Democrats.
President Trump, it’s against voting by mail, which he has called “scam” that will lead to the ” the greatest Rigged Election” (Berman,2015) he is concerned that this will be a massive fraud and abuse and the end of a great republican party. However, voting by mail it’s a new experience but also safer because of the COVID 19 crisis, you just filled your ballot and send it in or be delivered in person at the Board of Elections office.
This Election it’s affecting all of us because it’s a big change to avoid big crowns, so we can promote safety. also, mail delivery is not uniform across the nation and the tradition of voting with neighbors or other polling places no longer exists.
The bad influence in this is President Trump on using his bullying behavior to try to discourage people from voting and to try to stop people from voting by mail.
Voting by mail is not perfect if states do not start preparing very soon for the surge in ballots for example then there’s a good chance that their regular vote tabulation infrastructure will be overwhelmed. But it’s safe and effective and will allow many millions of Americans to have their voices heard this November who might have otherwise let concerns about COVID 19 keep them from casting a ballot. When we make voting safe and easy, we make our democracy stronger.
