The current COVID-19 pandemic and its related issues have some far-reaching impacts on our world and our local communities. For example, there are immediate problems with meeting the needs of those that are considered vulnerable populations who are already utilizing social services. There is an unprecedented number of people who are applying for welfare services as the impacts on the economy continue to unfurl. There is much conversation among analysts and specialists as to the long-term or lasting impacts that this pandemic will have on individuals, local communities, national governments, and the world overall. As social workers, these concerns should be on our radar as this will impact the populations that we serve and may even greatly increase the number of people in need of our services. Your assignment is to look over the article and choose three risks we are facing — any three — and discuss how it may impact a given population that social workers would normally work with. For example, the article mentions concerns with the healthcare system becoming expensive or ineffective. If you are a social worker in some type of medical social work, discuss how this might be a challenge for you or the population you serve. Then, in a short paper (2-3 pages) discuss your three chosen social concerns.
