– **NOT YOUR ASSIGNMENT** THIS IS WEEK’s ONE ASSIGNMENT – GIVES AN IDEA WHAT PAPER IS ABOUT – WILL INCLUDE ATTACHMENT OF FINISHED PRODUCT. PART 1 of 4 Initial Proposal: Capstone Week 1 Each week you will work towards the completion of your Capstone Final Project.  During Week One, you will complete the following tasks and submit them as your Initial Proposal Topic and rationale Thesis Statement Outline Preliminary reference list Remember to choose a topic that reflects your areas of study. Your topic must be approved by lead instructor or your mentor. Submit this assignment as ONE word document with a clear heading above each section of the assignment:  Rationale, Thesis Statement, Outline, Preliminary Reference List This assignment is due by Sunday 11:59 pm (Eastern Time)   Note: A  Topic Exploration Worksheet.docx   is available to help you choose and focus your topic. It is not required, but is helpful to explore ideas.  Rationale is a brief statement of the purpose for your paper. Like a blueprint or plan, it should provide the methodology and goals for the paper. It should include the following: PURPOSE:  What do you hope achieve with this paper? What are your goals? BACKGROUND: What relevant experience, studies or research do you have with the topic? How does it relate to your areas of study? SIGNIFICANCE: Why is this topic worthy?  What do you hope to learn from this experience?  What new perspective will you bring? RESEARCH METHODOLOGY AND DESCRIPTION: How will you conduct your research and what sources will you use?  Thesis Statement Compose a single sentence, including the topic, argument and three supporting claims. Topic: Benefits of integrating technology to stimulate student learning Thesis Statement: As the world becomes more technologically advanced, educators can use the Internet as a resource for professional development, to increase student learning, and to instill the skills students will need in today’s technological world  Outline  An outline is a way to focus and organize the writing that you will do. Without a plan, you may find yourself wandering from the main topic. The outline delivers the ability to organize your thoughts and the paper’s format. There are several forms of outlines, but for this assignment, you will complete a topic outline. You may want to expand your outline into a sentence or paragraph outline to help you complete your final written Capstone. Preliminary Reference List For this assignment, you need to identify five sources for consideration of your topic development.    Your sources may change but for this purpose please compile a list in APA format of five sources that are relevant to your topic. **YOURE ASSIGNMENT** THIS IS ASSIGNMENT DUE THIS WEEK  -–  PART 2 of 4 First Draft of Capstone Report This week you will write the first draft of your report.  The draft should be a minimum of 30 – 50% of the paper (5 – 10 pages). The draft is an important part of the process and the chance to get feedback and assistance from your instructor. Although the draft is a first look at the composition of your topic, the expectation is that it should strive to be error-free, APA compliant, and reasonably organized.  Use your outline as a guide. Be sure your thesis statement is clearly placed in the opening paragraphs.  If you are using sources, cite them properly. Although this is a draft, strive for proper grammar and usage.   Start with an introduction that explains the focus of the paper and presents relevant background if needed.  Define any terms or concepts that may be unfamiliar to readers. The introduction is like a pact with the reader; it foreshadows what is to come, so be sure it is clear and keeps it promise As you continue to the body of the paper, build your essay around the main points presented in the thesis statement. Integrate sources that support your point of view. Summarize, analyze and explain the source material you use rather than merely reporting it. Remember, this is your work, not a compilation of sources. Sources should be less than 20% of the paper. Your ideas and original work should comprise at 80% of the paper.  Details and specificity are keys to an effective paper. You may want to organize by starting with a general statement, then explain, and offer more details as each paragraph is developed. You do not want to be repetitive, but it is acceptable to offer different observations on the same information.   This can provide depth to the analysis and extend the essay without simply adding unnecessary words.
