Journal Assessment
Part 1 For this Assessment, you will be using the template provided to plan out your next week as best as you possibly can. Account for every hour in the week, including the time that you sleep, work, social/personal activities, schoolwork, etc. Ensure you include the progress you plan to take toward your Journal Assessment and the Assessment Activities you will review (readings, media, quizzes). After you have completed this, set it aside and print out a blank template. For the next week, fill in this template based on how you spend your time during the one-week period. At the end of the week, compare the planned schedule and how your week played out. In one page, describe what happened. Discuss the importance of time management and how this impacts your progress as a student. Week 1 Nov. 8-Nov. 14 Week 2 Nov-15-21 (new job orientation/training (Monday-Friday) Time Management Plan and Reflection Work/life balance is often challenging for many adults these days. In criminal justice, it can be even harder sometimes. Those in the criminal justice field are often required to work overtime, be on-call, or can be called into the office on a moment’s notice when a crisis occurs. Adding coursework to your already demanding schedule can be overwhelming. When adding coursework into the mix of life, it is critical that you best utilize your time so that you can attend to other duties in your work and personal life. Being able to complete your degree faster will get you one step closer to your goals. Your studies at Walden University can assist you in increasing your skills to create positive social change. Part 2 As the second part of the Assessment, you will complete a short reflection. You will write a brief reflection (4–5 paragraphs) related to social change and professional goals. In this reflection, you are required to answer a series of questions related to your experience. Since starting the program: What have you enjoyed the most? What have you found to be the most challenging and how can you minimize those challenges? How can you contribute to social change? Be sure to include the following: Research topics you are interested in pursuing during your studies, including why your research topics of interest are important for criminal justice and social change. A discussion on if you think it is important to contribute to social change and why or why not. What drives you to progress in your program? How can you keep your goals in mind when making time for your studies gets difficult? Have you found time management to be challenging? If so, why, and what can you do to minimize challenges? If not, what do you think you are doing well and how do you plan on maintaining your ability to manage time well? Consider approaches you have used in your professional or personal life. For example, making time for family/friends, making time for completing errands, integrating exercise into your life, making time to complete other work tasks when you have a lot of meetings, etc. Can any of the approaches you used to be transferred into your studies? Finally, compare the planned schedule and how your week played out. As part of your refection, discuss the importance of time management and how this impacts your progress as a student.
