Blood Sugar Monitoring

Treatment/Medications or expected medications-Blood sugar monitoring-Healthy diet-Regular exercise-Glyburide-Glyburide-MetforminAssessment Findings-Oral glucose tolerance test. Patient will need blood drawn every hour for 2-3 hours for GD to be diagnosed. High BP glucose levels at any two or more blood test times- fasting, 1 hour, 2 hours, or 3 hours mean the patient have GD.-Assess for s/s of hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia-Assess blood glucose levels before meals and at bedtime-Assess patient weight dailyFetal heart rate, laboring pattern,Postpartum assessmentfindingsIntervention-Teach and demonstrate to patient how to monitor blood sugar using a finger-stick method-Assess and record dietary pattern and caloric intake using 24-hours recall-Check patient weight every prenatal visit.
