Essay 2: A Researched Argumentative Essay
The possibilities for the second essay are quite broad. Think creatively. You may write on any work we are reading this semester
from the Renaissance forward for example John Donne: Holy Sonnets or George Herbert. Your essay may concern any aspect of
the work that you’re writing about, including literary genre, a theme or motif, connection to the time period, insight into human nature or other fundamental truth, a certain character or scene, etc. All
essays should have a thesis statement, supporting reasons and evidence from text, and analysis and interpretation of the evidence. For this assignment you must cite at least two scholarly sources, and each source should be cited at least twice. You may use these sources either as support for your own argument, or as examples opposing arguments (or both), but your own thesis should differ from
