Article Analysis
Article Analysis (50 points).
Investigate, research, and write-up a minimum three-page professional analysis of an article about strategy reflected in action. Describe how an organization’s vision and objectives are indicated in its actions. Is there any connection between vision and objectives and action? Think-out-of-the-box– are organizations just doing things or is there a purpose, a plan of action, or a perspective that action is intended on fulfilling? Why did you choose this article? Provide proper citation of the article but NOT a copy of the article.
Use credible sources to support your position in your writings. I will not accept a paper solely based on Wikipedia as credible. You may use scholarly articles found on https://scholar.google.com/, articles from credible online news outlets (such as Forbes, Harvard Business Review, Inc., etc.), articles from the organization’s website, other online sources, and/or texts. If you need help in researching your paper contact me early.
All papers will follow the APA style guide for formatting and citing all sources in text and on your reference list. See https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/01/ for appropriate guidelines. If you have questions on formatting your paper, after you have followed the APA guidelines, feel free to send it to me. I will not review the paper for content. I will only review the formatting. I strongly recommend using the Writing Lab as a resource to ensure your paper meets all requirements, including content. Once the paper has been turned in, I will make note of any issues I see with your formatting and citations, but will not deduct points for those issues on this specific paper.
Several of your classmates have asked me how to go about finding an article to use for the Portfolio #1 article. Here are some tips for you:
• Use a business-related media source to start your search, such as:
o Forbes,
o Harvard Business Review,
o Inc.,
o Wired,
o Bloomberg’s,
o Entrepreneur,
o The Economist, etc.
• Find an article that discusses strategy in the making:
o a change or establishment of a Vision,
o a change or establishment of a Mission,
o a proposed product and market,
o a change in C-suite leadership
o a change in Board of Directors
o old leadership is out, new leadership is taking over
o review of corporate performance
o review of governmental agency performance
o etc.
• Read the article thoroughly
• Research what “professional analysis of a business article” means through Google, Bing, Duck-Duck, etc.
o Use your text material and the additional materials provided to help with your analysis
Is the article an exploration of the ethics in a business decision?
Does the article discuss strategy or goals? How do you know the difference?
Is the article about a privately-owned company or a publicly-owned company? Would the article be different if it were a government agency? How?
• All of us have biases, but remember to keep your analysis fact-based and professional. Support your analysis with what you have learned so far in the course. Emotional opinions of situations are not analysis – they are Opinion pieces.
• Write your paper.
• Remember to use APA guidelines and cite your sources.
