Areas to cover in final paper:
1. Problem Statement
a. Disease that biotechnology is addressing including the prevalence and severity of the disease
b. Any constraints to solving the problem (cost, patient population, etc)
c. Description of the biotechnology you selected and how it’s used clinically
2. Discovery
a. Description of the molecular mechanism (ie: target) of the disease and biotechnology you selected (ie: interaction of the technology with the target)
b. Any interesting facts about the discovery process (ie: through pre-clinical stage) related to the research, patents, operations, people/institutions involved, etc.
c. Highlight one legal or ethical issue you know OR imagine needed to be addressed in the process
3. Development
a. Description of the clinical trials process and outcome including when the biotechnology was approved by the FDA
b. Highlight any legal, ethical issues you know OR imagine needed to be addressed in the process
4. Current Use and Future Direction
a. What is the current use (in sales, number of people, etc.) of this product
b. Highlight any ethical issues related to the current use of this product
c. Name 1-2 new biotechnologies being developed to address this disease
• These four areas will be the four sections of your paper
• Your paper should be 11 or 12 point font, double-spaced and should be 4-6 pages in length.

Was the significance and innovation of the idea sufficiently addressed.
SYNTHESIS OF KNOWLEDGE
Exemplary:-Student exhibits a defined and clear understanding of the assignment.
The topic is clearly defined and well- constructed to help guide the reader throughout the assignment.
Student builds upon the topic of the assignment with well- documented and exceptional supporting facts, figures, and/or statements
WRITING MECHANICS
Exemplary :- Almost the entire essay contains correct grammar.
Almost the entire essay contains correct spelling.
Almost the entire essay contains correct punctuation.
