Book Analysis Guidelines

You are asked to provide a critical analysis of the book Discounted Life: The Price of Global Surrogacy in India. Your paper should be between 6-8 pages, double spaces with proper formatting. You should provide a good overview of the book. Instead of just providing a summary of the each chapter you should provide a general overview of the author’s topic, main points, and argument. What is the thesis? What are the important conclusions? You can also focus on one or two concepts that are developed in the book and offer a critical analysis of these concepts. Choose the ones that are most significant and interesting to you. Finally, discuss the book in relation to its contribution to feminist understating of reproductive labor, surrogacy, commodification of reproductive labor, and globalization. As you discuss the author’s contribution to one of these themes you are required to also engage with at least two readings from the course material. Remember that you cannot discuss all these themes, so choose one or two concepts that you think are critical for your main argument. The paper will be evaluated for the insightful way in which you can present the conceptual significance of the book as well as your skill in condensing and finding connections between different course readings. A good paper will try to make linkages among various concepts presented in the readings. It doesn’t just provide a summary of the book.
