CPA Proposal

The consulting project assignment, or CPA, focuses on the experiential learning component of the course. It emphasizes that students work collaboratively to analyze a global business situation so as to obtain a deeper understanding of international business concepts. This assignment is designed to sharpen research, analytical, and business writing skills using databases relevant for international business.
The final CPA report involves conducting
VRIO analysis (value, rarity, imitability, and organization),
STEEPLE analysis (sociocultural, technological, economic, environmental political, legal, and ethical factors), and
providing recommendations about market entry for a hypothetical client who is considering entering countries in one of the following region: BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa), MINT (Mexico, Indonesia, Nigeria, Turkey), CIVETS (Columbia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Egypt, Turkey, South Africa).
For the CPA proposal, however, you or your group will need to research library databases to identify: (1) the type of industry in which your hypothetical client will be operating (SIC code, etc.) and (2) the country/geographical region that will be targeted for market entry.
I encourage students to do adequate research before deciding on the specific industry and country/region for market entry in your proposal.  As an example, Industry SIC codes can be researched using  NAICS website (https://www.naics.com/sic-industry-description/ (Links to an external site.) or https://www.naics.com/search/ (Links to an external site.)). Also, country(ies)/regions can be researched using CIA World FactBook (https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/resources/the-world-factbook/ (Links to an external site.)). The reference librarian at the SJSU Library can be a great resource (also check out http://libguides.sjsu.edu/bus187 (Links to an external site.)). Please do not take the selection made in this proposal lightly as it will dictate/limit your strategy choices for international business market entry in the final CPA report.
As an example, your group may state in your proposal that your hypothetical client is in food services industry (or eating places).

Furthermore, your group may decide to explore an international market entry for your client either in one country (say, Vietnam), or choosing from one of the two (or more) countries (Vietnam vs Indonesia vs Russia, etc.), or an expansion in a geographical region (say, the CIVETS region).
