Create a Wiki
For this activity, you will find and synthesize definitions of drama and comedy that will help you to prepare for the drama section of the final exam. We’ll be organizing and sharing what we find in a wiki. Wikis are collaboratively produced, informative web pages. In addition to adding content to the wiki, each contributor will help to organize the information by adding headings and subheadings or posting contributions to the appropriate section of the wiki.
1. Find a source through the library or on the Internet that helps you understand an aspect of the dramatic genre of tragedy or comedy. The source does not need to be scholarly, but it should be from a reputable source, not a commercial study site.
2. Save the full MLA bibliographic information for the source. For information on what to include in MLA format, visit this website (https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/research_and_citation/mla_style/mla_formatting_and_style_guide/mla_works_cited_page_basic_format.html )
3. In approximately 75 words or more, add to the wiki content on the Drama or Comedy pages by summarizing or paraphrasing your source, explaining the significance of the information, and connecting the information to other wiki contributions and/or plays we read. This job aid details how to submit your wiki entry: Job Aid For_Students_Submitting_A_Wiki_Entry.pdf
4. Credit the source in the wiki body next to the relevant material and add your source in MLA format to the page “Works Consulted” list.
Your contributions might address some of these questions or explore another aspect of the genre:
How have different thinkers and writers defined the genres of comedy and tragedy? How are their definitions similar, and how do they differ?
What is the history of comedy or drama, and how has the genre developed over time?
What are some of the key terms and conventions associated with the genre, and how are they defined?
What are some areas of disagreement about the genre?
What conventions of comedy or tragedy do the plays we’re reading this week exhibit?
