Data Analysis
During this week, you will continue to write sections of your final proposal. This week you will
write the data analysis section for your proposal. Below you will find questions that you will
need to answer as you create you proposal. This should be written in third person and in future
tense.
How do you plan to analyze your data?
What specific analysis would you use?
How would you determine if your hypothesis is accepted or rejected?
Write this in paragraph format.
Write this in future tense.
Your assignment should have a cover sheet, in proper APA format (6th edition).
You should have a reference list if you have cited anything within the text. This must be
in APA format.
Note: It is important that all your writing is in full sentences and grammatically correct.
Attach your assignment in Week 6 under Assignments.
Helpful Hints
Formatting
The paper must be written in APA format. Note that many formatting programs may be
used to help you with APA, but are not smart programs. They do not edit your mistakes,
especially in the reference list.
Do not rely on other sources to be 100% correct (such as OWL Purdue). It is best to use
the APA Manual for all your work.
Use Times Roman 12 point font (as suggested by 6th edition APA format).
Ensure that you are creating a document in a format that your instructor can open. Most
instructors use Word, so if you do not have Word, be sure to find a way that instructors
can open your document.
Do not provide a link to a Google document. Download the document and attach it
within the course shell. All work must be submitted into the course shell directly.
Citing References
Make sure you use citations when necessary. None of this should be your opinion.
Ideas have to be cited as well as statistics and/or direct quotes.
Make sure that you reference who you are citing within the text of the paper and not
just in the reference list.
Paraphrase the work of others and give them credit (i.e., when reviewing literature). In
other words, do not plagiarize.
2
If you do not cite what you have paraphrased, this is considered plagiarism.
Do not copy large blocks of information from any source. Your instructor is more
interested in reading how you interpret what you have read.
Quotations
Keep your biases out of the paper.
Use quotations sparingly. A rule of thumb is no more than one on a page.
Do not use quotations because you do not know how to paraphrase difficult material in
results sections of research studies.
You should not have two quotations in a paragraph.
If you do copy anything word for word, quotation marks must be put around the words
you have copied. You must then cite the author, year, and page number of the source
from which you took that information. If there is no page number, you must cite the
paragraph number. Note that just providing this information with no quotation marks
around the copied material is considered plagiarism (unless you have used a block
quote).
Flow
How you say something is almost as important as what you say. In other words, the
tone of your paper should be professional.
It is critical for your writing to flow well and have no grammatical errors.
This is a formal paper. Do not write as if you are speaking.
If you plagiarize, you will automatically fail this assignment. Be sure to review materials in
Course Information (Helpful Documents) so that you fully understand what plagiarism is and
how to avoid it. Please note that you may not use a paper you have written for another class
unless you get permission ahead of time from your previous and current instructor. If you are
retaking this class, you must also get permission from your previous and current instructor to
use previous work.
