You are required to write a research paper that will support / justify your proposed Senior Project (winter semester). For this Applied Research paper you are expected to outline the research steps and skills that you would implement in your research project including: an introduction with your research question, a literature review, research methodology used, review of research focus topics based on industry sector, discussion and research conclusions for future design Recommendation’s for Future Planning. The purpose of this assignment is to ensure you have gained the knowledge to apply the research skills you have learned in Applied Research DSN 0034 and apply that research to design applications in Senior Project. This assignment must not exceed 20 pages single-spaced (excluding cover page, reference/ bibliography list and appendices), APA format, 11 point Ariel font, print double sided portrait format.

Research Paper Submittal Criteria:
8-1/2 x 11, book (flip out pages allowed). Must be professionally bound (front and back hard cover). Submit one bound copy to Professor.
Cover Design should reflect Project Proposal. Color printing is required for bound copy.
Table of contents, sections and subsections should be page numbered (all pages should be numbered to reflect table of contents).
Tab & Label all sections and subsections to match table of contents.
Design format all pages (portrait page orientation), (print double sided). All written text documents should have 11-point Arial font style. All text paragraphs will be single spaced.
All documents submitted must reflect the specialty topic and design formatted (consider graphic development).
All written material submitted must be client ready (table of contents, relevant high quality images, APA style citations, bibliography, appendices, etc.).

Required order of Research Paper submittal:
Cover Page (follow ID program standards for label information): Graphically formatted to reflect the design project focus and content of the report.
Table of Contents: Sections and Subsections, concise and include Appendix subsections as required for clarification. Must be easy to reference, include page numbers. Indexed / tabbed sections and subsections as required for efficient cross referencing.
Design Proposal Statement: Indicate the scope of your design specialty topic (refer to Project Focus Topics) and elaborate on the importance of your project focus topics / issues specifically as they relate to your chosen industry sector design specialty.
Indicate why / how your project research and design development / application will add to the existing body of knowledge (justify why your proposed design specialty topic should be approved).
Methodology: Elaborate on all processes/data collection techniques, you utilized to develop your Research Paper. Consider exploration of research issues, charts, graphs, matrices, prototypical examples, etc. Must be all inclusive regarding your chosen Industry Sector design specialty. If relevant list items such as interview questions, observation checklists, surveys, etc. (these documents should be located in your Appendix).
Document all process from start of project to end of project.
Include Chart rating of focus topics (see Research Paper Outline, part #1).
Site Analysis: Evaluate the site (s) you will develop. Your design must indicate that more than one specific site could be utilized (think Senior Project when you apply for research to design solutions). Note: discuss demographics & other pertinent information that should be generic for your project (rural, urban, population description, etc.).
Review of Focus Topics: Expand on focus topic research to validate your research findings. Follow the format below when writing / reporting on each Focus Topic.
Note: All focus topics must include quality images (jpeg images, charts, etc.) to back up and support written text. All images must be referred to in body of text (example: see fig. #1, etc.). Image citations as required in Bibliography (consider separate image / fig. bibliography list).
Introduction paragraph for each Focus Topic: One paragraph how and why this focus topic is important to your specific Applied Research Project.
Write an in-depth essay regarding each focus topic as it specifically relates to your project. You must cite at least five (5) sources if the essay focus topic is pertinent to your primary project focus OR cite at least three (3) sources if the essay topic is secondary to your primary project focus. Note: You are not writing a Literature Review of individual articles. You are writing a series of Essays regarding each Focus Topic as it specifically relates to your specific project and each essay must support your project Recommendations (see item #8 below) for future Applied Design planning in Senior Project.
After your in-depth essay regarding the topic issues as they relate to your specific project focus (cite literature by others to back up your work) write a summary of how you propose to address each individual focus issue in your Senior Project course (Applied Design Solutions). Bullet format preferred.
Note: Charts, graphs, sketches, jpeg images, etc., should be incorporated within text as required to clarify text essay (s)

Overview / Conclusions of Research Topics: Provide a personal overview of all literature you reviewed, including interviews, surveys / questionnaires, etc., supporting your Research Paper Proposal. This is your personal overview of how your Project Focus research will relate to your Specific project in DSN 0035 Senior Project. Address the following (bullet format required).
Be specific regarding each focus topic.
Synopsis of Past Issues: Specific to project specialty topic (1/2 page max.).
Synopsis of Future Issues: Specific to project specialty topic (1/2 page max).
Recommendations For Future Planning Strategies (COMPREHENSIVE – bullet format required), (refer to Project Focus Topics), (refer to your Design Proposal Statement): Must relate to your proposed design proposal and industry sector. Recommendations For Future Planning Strategies will be the most important single element of your Research Paper. These recommendations for each of your research focus topics will be Critical in developing your programing documents in winter semester Senior Project. These recommendations indicate how you plan to merge your Applied Research to your Applied Design Solutions in winter semester Senior Design Project.
Bibliography: APA style for all works referenced and or cited (includes figure / image references).
Note: Consider Library Resources. An abundance of bibliography web references does not indicate in-depth knowledge of your project focus topics. Comprehensive and extensive Bibliography required to support your project research.

Appendix B: Copy the following (NOTE: Documents listed in Appendix B will need to be cited in the final Research Paper (APA correct citations referencing Appendix B):
All site surveys, questionnaires, interview documents, etc. used for research must follow research & ethics guidelines. Public or private responses to these documents must be private (review ethics on tabulating responses). Any of these official research documents will be represented in your Research Paper as charts, graphs, etc. and correctly cited APA style (referring to Appendix ‘B’. Review both ‘Research Paper Outline’ and, ‘Ethics Application Assignment’.
Appendix C: Include only documents you believe are relevant for further clarification and only documents you have referred to in report text. Prof. will not review a 30+ page Appendix C. If you correctly cited sources in the body of you Research Paper, correctly cited sources in your bibliography, no further need to bulk up Appendix C. You might not even need an Appendix C.
