Brenda was first seen in the emergency room for cutting and suicidal ideation. She is the second child of Jeff and Linda who are married and have two other children. They report that she has had sexualized behaviors such as pinching the buttocks of her teacher and wearing scantily clad clothing to church. She was kicked out of her school for having sex in the bathroom and she is currently attending a school for children struggling with their behavior. Her parents report that they cannot control her behavior and they are worried. Brenda is 19 years old and in her senior year of high school. She was a good student until she began having behavioral problems after attending a sleep away camp and after her older sister moved away to attend college. Brenda reported being date raped at her sleep away camp. Her parents have caught her drinking 2 years ago. They brought her to the emergency room after finding her sleeping in her room with an empty bottle of whisky and an empty bottle of Tylenol next to her bed. Brenda has struggled with maintaining friendships and has moved from one friend group to another. Her mother reports that she becomes angry and irritable with people and pushes them away and cuts them off. Brenda reports disassociating, especially when she is having sex. Brenda reports cutting herself when she becomes upset and states that this helps her cope with her emotions. Brenda’s father states that she has always been overly sensitive and he believes that she is struggling with how to cope with her emotions. Brenda’s parents do not know how to deal with her anger and so they have been dealing with it by giving in to her demands because she threatens to kill herself when they don’t. Her siblings are also exasperated by her behavior and tired of seeing their parents give in to her demands. Her younger sibling states that he does not feel safe in their house because his sister is always throwing things and yelling and his parents do not protect him or his property.
