The exam in PSY3990 The Bachelor thesis is a bachelor thesis where the core text should be 20 pages +/- 10%, the same as 18-22 pages. The core text is defined from the introduction to the discussion / conclusion. Front page, summary / abstract, abbreviations and glossaries, table of contents and reference list do not count in the calculation of the number of pages. Any attachments don’t count either.

Otherwise, the thesis should be written in A4 format, line spacing 1 1/2, font size 12 Times New Roman, margins are 2.5 cm for left, right, top and bottom. Text in tables / figures can have a font size between 9 and 12.

Content and structure:

The assignment should at least have a summary, introduction, method, results, and discussion.
The thesis will undertake a literature search and 10 or more original research articles based on this search, described under method and results respectively.
The thesis will discuss a psychological issue based on empirical research.
We strongly recommend that you take advantage of the tutorial through the assignments to meet these requirements.
The exam answers are graded and graded, A – F.

BRIEFLY ON THE BACHELOR THESIS

The thesis should be a mini literature review with the form of a scientific article. You choose your own problem. The purpose of the assignment should be to explain and discuss the latest / most relevant research related to the problem, as well as to identify problems / potential for improvement in the literature. Some papers may also be written for the purpose of evaluating or testing a theory / hypothesis.

The thesis is structured in the form of a scientific article, with introduction, method, results and discussion:

The introduction puts the problem in a professional context
The method section describes the literature search process
The results section summarizes findings from 10 empirical original articles on the issue
The discussion section summarizes the findings and discusses what conclusions can be drawn from the literature review: the strength of the findings, contradictory findings, implications for theory and practice, etc.

Length tips on each part of the assignment
How long each part of the assignment should be should be assessed according to the problem and the research you are going to review. Some issues are complex and require a relatively long introduction. Others are simple and require a relatively short introduction. Some literature reviews summarize studies that are very similar in design and measurement methods, and thus require a relatively short and concise results section. Other reviews deal with studies of a very different nature, and thus require a longer elaboration in the results section.

That said, as a guide, you might think that the task’s introduction, results / method and discussion / conclusion should be three roughly equal parts, given the number of words. Use this as a starting point and adjust accordingly!
