1.A selection in “The Second Sex,” that I find to be both relevant and true is passage 6. It states “Man is defined as a human being and women as a female- whenever she behaves as a human being she is said to imitate the male.” (pg. 83) I find this passage to be especially relevant in the workplace. When a woman takes a leadership role, or is in a position where she has a lot of responsibility, if she attempts to assert dominance or act as a superior, she is not respected and is viewed as just a woman who is trying to act like a male in that position. If a male was in the same leadership position, he would be respected as the leader, but the same cannot be said for women.

2.Through reading Simone de Beauvoir’s book “The Second Sex” one section that I felt is relevant and true to modern day feminism was in section 14. In section 14 it states, “A man would never set out to write a book on the peculiar situation of the human male. But if I wish to define myself, I must first of all say: ‘I am a human woman'” (Pg 15). This means that for the most part men aren’t necessarily gonna describe themselves about the struggles of being male. This is mostly because of the sad yet true reality about the advantages males have over females for various reasons. As a result women have been for years and still to this day are still looking for the respect they deserve in a lot of things from power, competitiveness in sports, and equal pay which is likely the biggest issue when it comes to gender equality in the U.S. The significance of females coming out to define themselves a human woman comes from many factors including surviving moments of sexual abuse/harassment, being portrayed differently by others, and other factors. This proves that they are trying to become the future of society especially now where Woman are working in more male dominated industries more than ever. To sum this up women are trying to stand out more than ever especially in these past few years since Trump has become president.
