Week 12
1. What kind of animal do you have?
2. How did you develop your connection with your pet?
3. Do you consider yourself having doggy like behaviours and your pet having human like behaviours?
4. Has your animal changed your families daily routine?
5. Could you live without your pet?
6. Is your family considered to be part of your family?
Before creating the 6 questions, I researched more into the topic and collected all the relevant materials I needed, that way I knew exactly what to ask and how to ask. Being the interviewer, I practised my questions over and over to ensure they flowed well. Doing so, allowed me to make a few changes to the questions. For example, question 1, as shown above, I had originally written “Do you have any animals? If so, what kind?” but after re reading the question given by the tutor, it was based on the interviewee having an animal which then allowed me to rethink about it and then changed the question to “What kind of animal do you have?” For question 2, I had prepared to ask, “Do you like/dislike animals?” but after getting advice off my tutor, she said I should ask a question that’s got to do with the connection between the owner and the pet which then changed my mind to “How did you develop your connection with your pet?”.
I then started to prepare the questions to be more open than closed which allowed me to gain more information needed. I got all my materials ready such as a pen and paper to transcribe the interview and take notes of what is being said. Throughout the interview, I made a few changes to question 1 due to the way the interviewee answered, giving me more information than I asked for, this gave me the chance to ask whether it was a girl or boy. For Question 2 the interviewee answered to how she developed a connection to her pet was because it was fluffy. I then asked, “Would you have gotten him if he wasn’t fluffy?” I feel as though, asking that extra question helped gain more information. Asking question 3 was a really good idea as it allowed me to hear other people’s perspective on how they put on a doggy like behaviour or if their pet has a human like behaviour as stated in the lecture by Penny “When humans and other animals dwell together, their characterises and modes of interaction are shaped, in part, by dwelling together. For the rest of the questions, they all flowed really well, and I received all the information needed. In reflection to the interview, I feel as though my interview questions allowed for a good exploration of the topic because everything I asked and got answered to was relevant to the topic and questions. I went off my interview structure throughout majority of the interview besides asking that extra question to make the interviewee think more about the topic and question. The interview was very sufficient as I collected all the relevant information I needed.
