economic indicators
Students will select two economic indicators (i.e. unemployment, CIP, treasury curve, housing etc.) of their own choice. Using the scientific approach (form a hypothesis, test the information stated in the hypothesis, accept, reject, or modify the hypothesis), test the information; come to some conclusion on the hypothesis. The scientific approach is discussed in the text and additional information can be found on the internet. The purpose is to prepare a three-page, typewritten, double-spaced informational paper presenting the hypothesis, supporting information and the conclusion. The paper will include economic words, definitions, and theories, covered in the class and found in the textbook. The reports must contain at least TWO (2) charts or graphs, supporting the student’s hypothesis. The writing will be graded according to the following criteria: grammar, organization, and clarity of issue (use of economic vocabulary), conclusion, quality, /quantity of reasons, use of charts and graphs, and overall evaluation.
The paper will be due and presented to the instructor at the beginning of the class one week prior to the last lecture class meeting. Students must use the APA format in preparation of the paper. Help with the APA format is available in the writing center, on the internet, or in the college library. All students are very much encouraged to use the writing center to edit their paper.
All students will present a synopsis of their paper to the other students in the form of a lecture during the last Wednesday lecture class. The presentation of the synopsis will not be more than five (5) minutes. Students may use the overhead projector or handouts for their presentation.
