Electronic Health Records
The following consists of information about the first part of the Scholarly Essay Assignment (Part A). The Scholarly Essay is to be completed in two parts. Part A and Part B. Part A: Due next weekTopic: Electronic Health Records (EHR). I would recommend that you narrow down and think carefully about a specific aspect of technology that is relevant to nursing practice. As well, try to think outside the box and consider new and upcoming technology or new ways of using current technology. This is a nursing informatics course with the purpose of focusing on how technology is relevant to nursing practice, so learning about the technology is key. Remember, this course focuses on eHealth and informatics related to professional nursing practice and how such systems can be used to maintain and improve the health care of clients, so you need to keep this in mind when developing your analysis and arguments. Your thesis statement and point form outline should be two pages of point form content, including main headings. Part A assignment should contain the following:1. Topic clearly identified. Outline the significance.2. A thesis statement that clearly identifies your topic and the argument that you plan to make in your paper. *Thesis should be argumentative. It should include how you are going to analyze or develop your argument.3. Literature Review: At least 5 of the scholarly articles/sources that you will use for your final paper with a brief summary (1-2 points) of each as they relate to your topic. These must be peer reviewed and current (within the last 5 years) *** This is a literature review, not an annotated bibliography.4. General Discussion Section: Minimum three subtopics to support your thesis and I would suggest using these subtopics as subheadings in the final paper to better organize and present the information. You may not have room for subheadings in this first paper. I would suggest noting at least one reference to support each subtopic.5. Implications for Nursing Section: Describe how your topic affects nursing and vice versa6. The title page and reference list (not counted in the 2 pages for length).References should be within the past 5 years, although older ‘benchmark’ references that have set a precedent that has not been updated or changed are acceptable. References MUST be from reputable sources, i.e. peer-reviewed journal articles, government or major organizations, etc. Non-credible internet sources are not acceptable.
