The challenge of this exercise is to take the material that has been presented to you during
the course and to turn it into practical knowledge in the context of a business that you will
develop as your own. This assignment should have a very low similarity score as this is your
own original company that you are describing in your own words. You are to prepare a
report.
A detailed knowledge of the business is not necessary but clarity on the businesses strategy
and intended source of competitive advantage will help greatly. Assume your company will
have a minimum of 15 employees.
Requirements of the Report
(Marks shown are for the report, with concise bullet points preferred to wordy text. The report
will be marked for clarity of information and appropriate presentation). It should be a max. of
2000 words.
The Requirements
Develop a business plan for a company (Electrical, Building or Civil Engineering
Consulting, or Contractor or Tech firm etc) for a company that you will create.
The plan is to include:
Overview of Your Business
Create a Name and briefly describe your business, include your vision and values, the
service or product, your target market and the key issues that will give you a competitive
advantage.

What role will your company have in society – how will it make a difference?

Name 3 laws the business will be required to practice/construct under and how will you
ensure these are adhered too as part of quality assurance?

Organisational Culture:
Describe and justify the type of culture you will need to create within your business in order
to:
 Build, maintain and enhance that culture.
 Attract, retain and motivate the type of staff you will need for your
business to be successful.
 Attract and retain the customers you are targeting.

Describe and justify the leadership style and management approaches you plan to adopt,
and explain how these will help you create the type of culture you have determined you will
need.
