Write a 450-word short paper summarizing a specific viewpoint source (a source in which the author makes an argument and takes a position on an issue or controversy).
Format: Refer to Purdue OWL (Links to an external site.) for MLA formatting style and citation guidelines.
Specifics: Your paper should do the following:
Introduce the controversy. (~100 words)
• Identify your controversy and explain how the source is relevant to that controversy.
• Explain your research process.
o How did you find this source? (e.g., what search engines, databases, and keywords did you use?)
o What are your research strategies moving forward? (e.g., will you use different search engines and/or databases? What new keywords and phrases will you use?)
Summarize the author’s position. (~250 words)
• Don’t try to cover all the author’s points. Instead, condense the information in the article by answering: What is the author’s primary argument and what reasons do they present in support of that argument?
• Use your own language when the author’s expression is not critical, and quote the author’s exact wording when it is memorable or conveys the tone of the argument.
• Use attributions and signal phrases (such as “Smith says” or “according to Bell”) when quoting or paraphrasing the source.
• Do not offer your own opinions about the argument–just represent it neutrally.

Evaluate credibility and bias in the text. (~100 words)
