Evangelistic Prayer Assignment Instructions

For this assignment, the student will engage in a “virtual” prayer walk through their community. Similar to actual prayer walking, the student will strategically pray over specific people and locations in a certain geographical location. The student does not have to physically walk around these locations, but is required to pray over 6 different locations and groups within their local community 3 times before the end of the term. The student’s paper will include a specific prayer for each of the identified locations or groups.  (Each of the six prayers must be a minimum of 6 sentences long and must include a corresponding scripture verse.)

Due Date: This assignment is due on the last day of class.
The student must follow the provided outline as they type out a prayer for each of the 6 highlighted locations/groups. (Do not include the instructions, rationale, or tips in your paper).

1. Local Government
Scripture reminds us to pray for our leaders. Paul’s writings exhort us to: “make supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings for everyone, for kings and for all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceful life in all godliness and honesty, for this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior.” (1 Tim 2:1-3) Your prayer must include the name of 2 top local officials.

2. Local Schools
It is vital that we cover our local students, teachers and administrators in prayer. Also, we must not forget to pray for our school boards as they decide which policies and curriculum will shape our schools. Our communities need dedicated Christian educators who will be salt and light and serve as positive role models for their students. Your prayer must include the name of 2 school board members or school administrators, the names of at least 2 schools.

3. A Local Neighborhood
Our neighborhoods desperately need the truth and grace that come only from God. Praying for our cities is one way we can partner with God in bringing his work of renewal and redemption to those in our communities. Your prayer must include the name of a specific neighborhood and any known problems or issues associated with that neighborhood.

4. First Responders
Police, Fire and Emergency Service members routinely put their lives at risk to keep those in their communities safe.  These brave men and women are asked to step into potentially dangerous situations on a daily basis. It is important to keep them and their families in prayer.

5. A Local Church
Local churches are like hospitals for the spiritually sick and destitute. As such, they are under the attack of the enemy so that the hope, help, salvation and love they offer will never reach those who need it most. We are one Body in Christ and so we must lift one another up. Your prayer must include the name of a church, other than your own, and the name of the pastor.

6. An Inner-city Ministry
The inner city is often a hub for crime, poverty, sin and brokenness. The sheer number of people in our cities exemplifies the fact that we live in a sinful and spiritually impoverished world. If we are to reclaim our nation with the Gospel, we need to reach out to the masses with the love and truth of Christ! Your prayer include the name of the ministry and its leader/s.

Make sure to include this Statement of Completion at the bottom of your Paper:
(Please fill your name in the blank and then copy the flowing excerpt into your paper.)

“I ______________ (your name) verify that I have prayed over these 6 different locations and groups three separate times during the course of this class.”

Please note:
⦁ It is imperative that we learn to pray with scripture. So, when you are asked to incorporate a verse, please do not just insert the verse citation. Make a point to actually pray the verse you included over the audience or location you are targeting.
⦁ PLEASE try to pray with your ear attuned to the Holy Spirit. Ask Him to guide your prayers and listen discerningly. He knows the needs and circumstances of every life and circumstance associated with the people and locations we are praying over!
⦁ Please do not just copy the prayers of others. SafeAssign will mark that as plagiarized content. So, make sure to create your own prayers.
⦁ Professor’s Recommendation: Type out your prayers first and then pray out those prayers on 3 different occasions.
