Final Research Project

For your final project, you should find and evaluate what you deem as a good example of public
speaking. Using any online resource you like (YouTube, Vimeo, etc.), you should find one
example of a speech of at least three minutes in length that exemplifies the qualities of a good
presentation you have learned throughout the course.
For your evaluation, you should consider the following:
What was the overall goal of the speech? Was the speaker trying to inform, persuade, or
something else? Whatever their goal, were they successful? Why or why not?
Did the audience seemed engaged in the speech? How could you tell? Did the speaker
do anything in particular to keep the audience engaged?
Evaluate the speaker…did they seem confident and prepared to deliver their speech? If
they used a manuscript, outline, or cue cards, did they distract from the speech as a
whole? Was the speaker dressed appropriately for the occasion and type of speech?
What were the major strengths of the speaker? Did these strengths make the speech
more effective?
Was there anything the speaker could have improved on?
If you could change one thing about the speech, what would it be?
Your evaluation should be no less than one page but no more than two pages in length. You
should also include the hyperlink to the speech you evaluated on the document itself with the
title and source of the speech.
