Furniture Design Hisotry

TOPIC
This assignment requires you to choose one theoretical text from our course readings to analyze (please see the schedule of classes posted on Canvas.) You may choose any reading from Weeks 1-6 You will also choose one object – either piece of furniture, an object, or a building—to discuss in relation to your chosen text. This must be a work that was designed by the theorist, or in some cases, a work by someone else that corresponds to the theorist’s ideas.

GETTING STARTED
I suggest you start by reading, highlighting and taking notes on your chosen text. Please make a list of key words or concepts that will help you talk about your chosen object. Please consider who or what may have influenced your theorist in terms of social, political, economical, religious, and national context.

ESSAY CONTENT
The body of your paper should include a brief introduction to the time period as well as analysis of the text and object. Please consider the three key considerations for understanding architecture and design that we discussed at the outset of the course:
-The architect or designer’s intent
-The zeitgeist
-A concept of what architecture or design can be

FORMAT
Your final submission should be approximately four pages long, not including bibliography or image section (containing three to five images).
