GOVT 2305 – Research Paper

While the 1950’s and 1960’s are typically seen as the Civil Rights era, many Americans would argue that the movement is not over. Most would say that the focus has changed from just racial equality to include all marginalized groups. For this essay, you need to choose a civil rights issue that came into prominence since the 1960s and research the processes used or being used to achieve equality. You must include a brief history of the movement; key participants; at least one court case addressing the issue; how this issue is effected by federalism; any legislation or attempted legislation addressing the issue; a non-political (art, music, theater) statement about the topic; and your own personal opinion on the issue. You are expected to use MLA citations to support any claims you make, and are required to have a minimum of four sources; two of which must be from scholarly journals. The paper should be four pages in length, using 12pt font, double spacing, and 1-inch margins.
