Group Experience Journal Overview
Submit your group experience journal. See Group Experience Journal Overview for details.
Introduction
Keep a journal, reflecting on your work with groups, both group observations during your practicum hours and your NURS 665 group presentations.
Each journal entry should be 1–2 pages long. APA format is not required.
Outline
Describe your experiences in your group using the following format. Please remember to use pseudonyms in place of real names to help protect confidentiality.
1. Observations: Describe what happened in group for the week. Include a general description of the group, what occurred, specific events or interactions that were particularly significant for you, and examples of interactions, nonverbal behavior, or communication patterns that typify what happened in the group.
2. Personal reactions and reflection: Discuss your personal reactions to what happened in the group. What do you think and how do you feel (that is, what were your emotions) about what happened? Describe any personal meanings you gained. Did you discover something new about yourself or confirm something you already knew? Did you “try on” any new behaviors? How did these behaviors work for you? Specify any plans or goals you want to apply to build on what you learned.
3. Group phase/stage: Identify the phases/stages of group development. If your group is not developing or advancing through these stages, analyze why.
