The Proposing Positive Change essay project invites you to identify a problem, and argue to support a particular solution that would create a positive change. The problem or issue you identify may be something you encounter in your personal life or family (bad habits, relationship issues, work-related challenges, etc.) or, you might be interested in addressing problems in your community, or in the world around you (social problems, environmental or economic issues, violence, etc.).
You are free to identify the problem you wish to address and propose a solution for, but please do not select topics on the

Convincing Evidence/Support-provide solid proof or evidence that helps you define the problem, (and/or the causes and effects of the problem) and helps support the solution/s you are proposing. This may include evidence from the external sources you locate, and your own experiences–be sure to include your reaction to and analysis of what your outside sources say!!
Consideration of Audience—your classmates are the audience for this essay. Consider how you can establish trust and credibility with your readers. Also, think about the strategies you can use to convince them that the solution you are proposing is viable.…this may be accomplished with an appeal to the reader’s sense of logic, by establishing credibility with your sources or your personal expertise, and/or you might make an emotional appeal.
Guidelines and Deadlines:
The essay will be completed in a series of steps. Successful completion of each step will be necessary to earn full credit. The steps of the process are detailed in the Proposing Positive Change-One Step at a Time handout. The evaluation rubric is also provided.
This essay should be no less than 5 pages (1200 words) in length, written in MLA format (the Works Cited does not count toward the 5-page minimum).
The essay must contain at least three sources (two must be taken from the online databases available from our library).
The essay must use proper MLA style citation for all sources included, and a Works Cited page must also be included
