The Hero’s Journey , which presents how humans need challenge to achieve personal growth: to win a competition, to heal a wound, or to find love of self or other(s). Heroes may also need to answer Calls to Adventure where physical lives and even the fate of the world are at stake. These Heroes must learn to accept the sacrifice of life and limb for the service of others. The Hero takes a physical, active part on the Journey to solve a problem or achieve a goal. However, the Hero’s Journey is as important an emotional or psychological journey as it is physical. A character’s actions and decisions in response to the Journey’s Stages can reveal the Character Arc, or phases of growth that a character experiences during the course of the story.

Writing prompt: Using the ARC of the Hero’s Journey, compose an essay in which you analyze character development through the eyes of the protagonist (Hero) in one of the films discussed in class (aside from Juno and Million Dollar Baby).

Use the following required guidelines as your check off list:

When unfolding your discussion, introduce the title and important aspects of the film.
Use MLA format, integrate at least 3 sources (a specific scene, dialogue, and/or external source) to support your claim.
