We have yet to find a full and acceptable definition of what constitutes mental illness. However, it is possible to argue that we have a better understanding of what constitutes mental illness. Starting with Philippe Pinel’s moral treatment and carrying on into the present era of pharmacology, can we say that the lives of those deemed mentally ill have been improved through this understanding? Provide an argument that supports your view.
