History Repeating Itself?

Some people like to use the cliche “history repeats itself” and others modify the cliche to “history doesn’t repeat itself; but, it does rhyme.” Using the first 19 years of the 21st century as an example and compared to the end of the 19th century we looked at (c. 1877-c. 1900), what do you think? Is history repeating? Is it rhyming? Or is the 21st century really “new?”
You could consider any, or none, of the following:
What similarities and/or differences exist between the two eras?
Whether or not “repetition” or “rhyming” even matter?
What could we learn from the late 19th century to apply to our early 21st century?
What would be best learning from the late 19th century to not repeat in the early 21st century?
