Individualized Physical Activity Plan
Individualized Physical Activity Plan
The purpose of the project is to demonstrate an understanding of (1) the decision-making process involved in planning the physical education or activity program for individuals with differing abilities and (2) the critical link between individual ability differences and appropriate programming strategies. The project will be comprehensive in that it will follow a particular case from assessment of ability to specification of goals and objectives to appropriate activity modifications.
Project Guidelines
You should develop a case description and physical activity plan for a 13 year old student with a disability. The type and severity of disability is up to you. The following components should then be developed for the case to which you have been assigned:
I. Case Description
II. Preparing for Inclusive Activity (5 points)
Discuss what issues exist regarding access for this individual, what support network you will establish, and how you plan to promote a positive environment and acceptance by program staff and participants.
III. Planning for Inclusive Activity
A. What to teach (5 points)
You must first determine the focus of programming for this individual from a functional approach. In this section, discuss how you determined this focus and why. Be specific about the kinds of questions you asked, from whom you obtained this information, and any other related information you needed on which to base your decisions.
B. How the program will be implemented (5 points)
Next, decide how this programming will take place. Explain why and how you came to this decision regarding the regular physical education or activity curriculum and what supports are needed to realize the individual’s physical activity program.
C. Individualized activity plan (10 points)
Develop both a long-term goal and short-term objectives for one of the activities or areas outlined in section I. First, provide a statement of the present level of performance of the individual for this activity (to be obtained from instructor). Next, provide one long-term goal and three short-term objectives for these areas. Objectives should all be observable, content related, and measurable.
D. Activity adaptation (20 points)
From the skill you have chosen, outline the functional components involved in the skill or activity in general and identify those components that differ for your particular individual.
Next, develop a task progression for the particular skill or activity you have chosen (minimum of 15 steps). Determine which adaptations you would employ for this progression and which step in the progression might be an appropriate starting point for your individual. How did you come to this decision?
IV. Evaluation (5 points)
Discuss what issues exist regarding access for this individual, what support network you will establish, and how you plan to promote a positive environment and acceptance by program staff and participants.
