Introduction to Mass Media Topic: Blog
For your next to last blog assignment** I’d love to have you watch one of the better films about media – The Insider (1999) directed by Michael Mann, starring Al Pacino & Russell Crowe . I do not need a summary of the film, I’ve seen it. Plenty of times. Btw , the movie isn’t short (2 hours and 37 mins of Pacino and Crowe yelling at each other) so plan accordingly. It’s also why I am posting this four weeks before it is due.
**This MAY end up being your final blog post. Just FYI.**
The movie was based on this Vanity Fair article:
https://www.vanityfair.com/magazine/1996/05/wigand199605
Read the article FIRST.
Then watch the 60 mins piece: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1_-Vu8LrUDk
Then watch the movie. It’s currently streaming on youtube for free… not sure how long that will last but here’s the link:
Do a small compare and contrast… don’t get bogged down in this. But I need you to prove you read the article and watched the film.
I really want you to use the Media Law & Media Ethics chapters to inform your work.
This is the second to last blog post — so you should be getting better and better at these by now. I do not want to burden you with prompts. I want you to use what you’ve learned, use what you’ve read, and write your piece.
Can you understand the points of view of CBS? 60 Minutes? Lowell Bergman? Jeffrey Wigand? Can you approach it from a media law & media ethics POV?
There are so many other questions and ideas I have but with only one more to go after this… I want to see what you can do.
