Option 1: Campus Involvement
Write a 1-2 page paper explaining several different ways in which an incoming student at SBU can learn about involvement opportunities on campus. You must include the following details in your paper:
Provide the name, location, and contact information (phone and/or email) for the following on-campus offices: Undergraduate Colleges; Commuter Student Services; Career Center; Counseling Center (CAPS), Student Activities, Center for Prevention and Outreach, ASTC (Academic Success and Tutoring Center)
Describe the specific services offered/provided by any three of the above offices.
Identify at least two different campus resources that could assist a student who is seeking leadership development and or campus involvement opportunities.
Provide information on at least two campus involvement opportunities. (Examples: Study Abroad; National Student Exchange; Hall Council; NRHH; College Fellows; Alternative Spring Break Outreach Program (ASBO); Resident Assistant (RA); Commuter Student Assistant(CSA); Orientation Leader, etc.)
In what ways will this assignment benefit you as a first year student at SBU?
Option 2: Social Justice
Write a 1-2 page paper explaining the concept of Social Justice with relation to any organization or agency and current social issue of your choice. You must include the following details in your paper:
Identify one current problem or issue of social justice that needs to be resolved.
Identify at least one specific organization which is in support of that social justice cause.
Describe the specific goals AND accomplishments of the group/organization you’ve chosen to research.
Background information (When and why was it founded? By whom?)
Name some of the current or past programs/events put on by this organization (to raise awareness or funding, etc).
List and explain several ways one can contribute in order to help with this issue/cause.
Discuss how the overall concept of ‘Social Justice’ is integrated within the themes of the LDS College. Provide specific examples wherever applicable.
