lesson plan
For this assignment, I’d like you to design a lesson plan of 40-50 minutes(use PPP format https://how-to-teach-english.ontesol.com/tesol-writing-a-simple-grammar-lesson-plan/) intended to foster knowledge of a chosen grammar feature(such as simple past, comparative,Present perfect and etc. Just pick one grammar feature ). Describe the rationale for the choice of target feature and the procedures/activities (and their sequencing) in the proposed lesson plan. You may choose to focus on a grammar feature or pattern that also attracted your interest in the previous assignments. Alternatively, you may feel you get more out of the course by changing your focus from one assignment to the next.
There is no template for this assignment. What needs to be included, regardless of the presentation format you use, is:
a) Detailed information about the lesson. Describe the activities well enough for me to picture clearly what students are asked to do. If the lesson incorporates textual input, then provide this. If the lesson incorporates explicit explanations regarding grammar features or patterns, then provide those explanations. If the lesson incorporates materials such as exercises, then provide these.
b) A commentary with a well-informed rationale for your decisions. This includes decision making concerning the choice of target feature (why including this lesson in the programme for your students is time well spent and will make a difference), the choice of activities and their sequencing, the choice of input materials, and the kind of information given to the students regarding the target grammar feature.
The length of your document is likely to vary, depending on how much textual input is used in the lesson itself. However, I imagine that the ‘commentary’ component (explaining the rationale for your choices) will require about 1,200 words.
Weighting: 40%
Assessment rubric:
1. Lesson plan
1a. Is the lesson plan clear enough, detailed enough and sufficiently well documented, so that a reader would be able to implement it without having to ask for further clarification?
1b. Is the presentation of the chosen L2 grammar pattern linguistically accurate? Are explanations (if any) about the grammar pattern correct? Has the lesson designer made sure that the English input they give their students to learn from is grammatical?
2. Commentary
2a. Is the choice of grammar focus explicitly motivated?
2b. Are the various steps/activities of the lesson (and their sequence) explicitly motivated? Does the rationale build on the research literature?
