Literacy narrative about experience in your education

Write about a experience in your education, positive or negative, that was meaningful to you, one that you feel you learned from. This narrative should not only relate what happened, but also connect with readers on a deeper level by exploring themes, issues, realizations, and/or changes. Allow your readers to understand how significant this experience is to you and why by sharing your thoughts and emotions as you narrate your story. Your experience can be something grand or simple, positive or negative, covering a short period of time or a long period, in chronological order or non-chronological. Elicit emotion by focusing on specific details and images to help paint a picture for the reader. Feel free to experiment with your writer’s voice in using descriptive and vivid language, but be selective in what you choose to describe. Also be selective in your use of dialogue, only giving voice to those who are meaningful to your story. Connect the ideas we have been discussing in Unit 2 to your narrative, using at least two of the five sources to support and enhance and deepen the meaning, the theme. Remember your overall purpose, which is to entertain, to tell a story that captivates readers, and what makes a personal narrative essay interesting to readers is the writer’s ability to manipulate rhetorical strategies (Relating Content, Relating Thoughts and Emotions, Using Specific Details, Presenting a Persona, Manipulating Time, and Dialogue) so that readers feel they are living this experience with you. Remember the Unit 2 readings (“Allegory of the Cave,” “Learning to Read,” Pedagogy the Oppressed, “Against School,” and “Is Google Making Us Stupid?”)
