Living in poverty and being rich.
For this task, you must select two articles of your own choosing (use JSTOR or similar databases or e-resources). Each article should be at least 3 pages long.
Once you have chosen your articles, please follow the steps below:
1. Read the articles at least once. You should be familiar with the content and be able to discuss and respond to the point of view / argument that the author is putting forward as well as identify the similarities (comparison) and/or differences (contrast) of the main ideas/arguments. 2. Annotate the article. This means making notes on the article, using the paper (soft copy) itself and its margins to note down your responses, thoughts, and to highlight any important information. Do not simply make marks at random on the page without reading the article properly. It is very obvious when the student does this, rather than reading and annotating thoughtfully. You’ll be asked to engage with your own annotations, so don’t try to fake it! 3. Write two paragraphs comparing/contrasting the articles. These paragraphs should be around 250 words each (for a total word count of approximately 500 words), and should follow this format below. 4. Present briefly your articles’ findings and analysis to the class on the day of submission via group chat, or whiteboard on Blackboard Collaborate Ultra.
Paragraph 1: Summary and Analysis
Summary: In the first paragraph, you should briefly summarize the article’s content using your own words. Where paraphrasing is used, page numbers should be cited.
Analysis: comparison/contrast essay, in which you focus on the ways in which certain things or ideas—usually two of them—are similar to (this is the comparison) and/or different from (this is the contrast) one another. In this paragraph, you must make connections between texts or ideas, engage in critical thinking, and go beyond mere description or summary to generate interesting analysis: when you reflect on similarities and differences, you gain a deeper understanding of the items you are comparing, their relationship to each other, and what is most important about them.
Paragraph 2: Evaluation
Evaluation: In the second paragraph, you should critically evaluate the articles in terms of usefulness (or lack thereof!) for developing your own research. Some questions to think about might include: how helpful is the article for my own ideas? How would I use this article to support my own arguments? What did the article teach me?
4. Type your response (don’t forget to include your name and ID)the annotated articles should be added as an appendix and submit as a softy copy before the deadline.
5. Finally, give a brief s mini presentation online via Blackboard Collaborate Ultra about your articles and research finding in order to share the wealth of knowledge with your peers.
Format of the assignment:
1. Word count: 500 words (250 each paragraph).
2. Academic Honesty (please read section on plagiarism on syllabus).
3. Provide annotated articles as an appendix with your notes/highlights and etc. and add it to the back of your assignment.
4. Submit it as one file via turnitin on BB.
