Media Ownership
Figure 2.1 on pages 44–45 of Croteau and Hoynes, one of the assigned readings for this week, shows a selection of the holdings of one media conglomerate, News Corporation, as of 2006.
For this Discussion Board, you will explore one other media corporation, analyze its holdings and comment on what you find.
Instructions:
1. Choose one of the companies listed below.
2. Google the company and find its main website. Visit the website and carefully research both its media and non-media holdings.
3. Make a list of the holdings, separating those related to media from those not.
4. Comment in your post on what you’ve found, drawing upon the key concepts from the chapter: conglomeration, globalization, vertical and horizontal integration, synergy, etc. Did you recognize some of the media outlets or products owned by your company? Were you previously aware that the company you researched had such extensive holdings in such diverse industries? Were you surprised or worried by anything you found?
