Modern animal housing and management systems have developed to cater for the physical needs of animals

Each student will write a short scientific article (maximum 1500 words) to discuss the following statement:

“Modern animal housing and management systems have developed to cater for the physical needs of animals”.

In writing your answer you should describe how the anatomical structure and physiological function of a species has influenced the housing and management of that species? You may select from one of the following species examples;

Intensive (housed) dairy cattle production
Intensive (beef or sheep) feedlot production
Pig production (intensive)
Poultry meat and layer production (intensive)
Common exotic pet species (birds, reptiles or rodents)
In your answer you should think about how the structure of the animal and it’s unique physiology have resulted in the development of particular housing and management systems. As a guide you should think about how the structure of the animal relates to the environment it is kept in, how the animal maintains homeostasis, and how these factors influence the way animals are kept.

Your answer should be aimed at a scientific audience. You must also reference scientific peer reviewed literature to support your essay.
