This case analysis will be done with a literary or historical figure with one or more identifiable psychological disorders. Use the bibliography provided to select your book. Your paper will be at least five pages in length (typed, double-spaced, 12-point font, one-inch margins), which does not include the resource list page or references page. Do not submit a paper that is more than 10 pages. You may use MLA or APA format. This assignment is worth 20% of your class grade (200 points).

Be careful about accepting the diagnosis of the character that is included in the book. Some books on your list were written using a very old DSM and others are simply poorly diagnosed. Your paper must consist of seven sections. These are:

A brief biography. Describe your “client.” Include demographic variables such as gender, age, race, ethnicity, and religious orientation; number of siblings and rank in sibling order; relationship, work, and health status; the nature of relationships with parents, partners, children, and friends; hobbies, wishes, and goals; education; and the nature of crises, trauma, or stressors. Include the presenting problem.
Nature of functioning. What symptoms brought your client in for an “intake”? In addition to things like suicidal ideation and hopelessness, discuss mood, range of affect, eye contact, sensorium, behavioral problems, and cognitive functioning. Be specific. What else would you want to assess that was not described in your source?
Strengths and weaknesses. While your “client” may not recognize their strengths, identification of both strengths (e.g., verbal, insightful, strong family supports) and weaknesses (e.g., uneven job history, poor coping skills, history of unstable relationships) will allow you to work more effectively with clients in treatment. Describe the client’s strengths and weaknesses in detail.
A DSM-5 diagnosis or diagnoses must be provided and you must defend your decisions for the diagnoses. Explain why the person meets the criteria for that diagnosis or diagnoses. What other possible psychological and medical diagnoses did you rule-out?
Treatment Plan. Describe the specific type of treatment(s) you would recommend for your client. Be sure to justify the reason for using each treatment method described and base your recommendations on evidence-based practices for that specific diagnosis. You are expected to site resources appropriately.
Resource List (separate page). List five local (San Diego) resources and support services agencies where one could go to get help for the psychological disorder(s) your “client” has. Provide a description of the services offered and the location and phone contact information. DO NOT cut and paste information from the internet. Provide a professional description as if you would give it to a client or family member or friend of the client.
References (separate page). You need at least three scholarly references of the sources you used in order to increase your understanding of diagnostic issues and treatment plans. Our textbook may count as one of these; the book you used for your “client” does not count as a reference but needs to be listed in this section. The DSM-5 does not count as one of the three required references. Most web sites are not appropriate resources (e.g., Wikipedia).
