Both countries are similar in terms of ethnic diversity. Yet Kenya, which has enjoyed a relatively greater level of economic development, has been plagued by repeated cycles of political violence, while Tanzania, though relatively poorer, has remained peaceful. What explains this discrepancy in outcomes?
