Psychology Task 1
In lieu of holding class today, you have this 2-part assignment which should take about as long as a day of class would have! If you have not already watched these two assigned videos , posted on the Chapter 6 Page, enjoy them now! Heck, enjoy them again if you already did!

Crash Course Psychology: Cognition – How Your Mind Can Amaze and Betray You
We used to think that the human brain was a lot like a computer; using logic to figure out complicated problems. It turns out, it’s a lot more complex and, well, weird than that. In this episode of Crash Course Psychology, Hank discusses thinking & communication, solving problems, creating problems, and a few ideas about what our brains are doing up there.

Crash Course Psychology: Controversy of Intelligence
So, how many different kinds of intelligence are there? And what is the G-Factor? Eugenics? Have you ever taken an IQ Test? All of these things play into the fascinating and sometimes icky history of Intelligence Testing. In this episode of Crash Course Psychology, Hank talks us through some of the important aspects of that history… as well as Nazis. Hey, I said some of it was icky.
Then, write and submit a two-part paper with at least a half-page each describing the segment or portion in each video that fascinated you the most. Explain why it interested you and give your OWN example of the concept from your life (not in this video, your text, or an example given by me in class).
For example (which you cannot now use!), I might write about how I liked the explanation in the first video about “anchoring” as a barrier to effective thinking and explain briefly what it means. Then, I might describe an example about how tend to think of walking distances often as two-mile segments. You see, my walk between home and work is two miles and I walk each way five times every week. So, when I think about walking somewhere, I always seem to find myself “anchoring” my estimate of how far it is in comparison to my 2-mile walk to/from work/home. Oh, and you don’t remember hearing Hank talk ab out “anchoring” in this video? Better watch it again! 😉
Please save your work in Microsoft Word format (.doc, .docx, or .rtf) and upload it here. I am not looking for any particular writing style. I am expecting about one full page total for both videos, single-spaced, 12-point font. See the red “Submit Assignment” button box up in the top-right? That’s how you submit this.
These videos are assigned you to watch on your own anyway, so I recommend using the time we would have been in class on Friday to do this task.
