Chapter 3 Quality Design and Control
1. QFD/House of Quality pg. 111-115: Construct a simple house of quality for a simple product or service of your choice (a few examples: backpack, stapler, headphones, cup of coffee, eyeglass repair). Limit your house of quality to 3-5 customer attributes (a.k.a. VOC) and 3-5 technical features (a.k.a. VOE). Competitive evaluation is not necessary.

2. DFMEA pg. 115-6: Consider design of a typical household refrigerator. Identify three different ways the system may fail. What could be the magnitude and are three possible effects of each failure?

3. Poka-Yoke pg. 122-3: (a) Identify ten examples of poka-yoke in everyday products. Hint: automobiles provide dozens of examples. (b) Visit http://www.mistakeproofing.com/ and identify three examples of poka-yoke you consider excellent (Examples link) and three examples of bad design (Bad Design link) you find interesting.

4. SPC pg. 130 and 166-8: The following chart identifies 15 samples, in order, from bottle station #2 of Tipsy Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon. The target level is 750ml, with UCL=760 and LCL=740.
