Renaissance and Baroque Art Work

Choose a painting and a piece of sculpture from the renaissance and a painting and a piece of sculpture from the Baroque period. Using at least a paragraph for each of the four works, discuss how the works and reflect the artistic themes of the two time periods. For example, you could choose Michelangelo’s portrayal of David; this is a Renaissance piece and reflects the balance and order that the Renaissance artists admired so much from Greece and Rome. In another paragraph, you could discuss Bernini’ David of the Baroque period. The same comparison could be made with Michelangelo’s Pieta, where Mary shows little if any emotion, and Ecstasy of St. Teresa, which is filled with passion. In paintings Michelangelo’s figures from the Chapel or Raphael’s School of Athens (Renaissance works), could be compared to the Baroque paintings of Caravaggio, Rembrandt, Rubens and Artemisia Gentileschi.
