Response Journal #2—Normal or naw?

You have read/viewed some introductory background on both the Elizabethan Era and on
William Shakespeare. Does any of this seem…normal? Think about it…a virgin Queen who
should have never been queen but whom, defying ALL odds, becomes one of the greatest leaders
in history; a poet/playwright who is singlehandedly responsible for legitimizing the English
language; all of the most influential artists (playwrights) surviving plague; one man
(Shakespeare) renowned as the greatest communicator of the human experience (meaning, he
“gets” people, he gets us, better than ANYONE ever has—to date…). Seriously? Is this even
real? Well, yes it is. But it is far from normal. From what you have read/viewed thus far, what
makes the EEra and WS so special? Significant? Unusual? Explore a few theories.
