responsible for planning before each negotiation and analyzing
You are responsible for planning before each negotiation and analyzing your outcomes after each negotiation. At two points in the quarter, I will see two memo’s that will details the planning and execution of your in-class negotiations and the negotiation outcome. The first memo will be due on Wednesday, May 6th at 11:59 PM based on your analysis of any or all the exercises you will have completed at that time. The first memo will require you to use an analysis of your own strengths and weaknesses in order to articulate learning goals for the remainder of the quarter.
Memos should be 2 pages, single spaced. The best memos go beyond storytelling to provide systematic analysis. Your memos might address the following:
How did the actual process and outcome of the negotiation compare to the predictions of various writings on negotiations?
What did you learn about negotiation, conflict, and/or power from the exercise?
What did you learn about yourself or about other people in the exercise?
How did your outcomes differ from those of the other class members? Why?
If you had the chance to do this negotiation over, what would you do different?
What I look for in grading memos:
Understanding and demonstrating what you know about the material and what you have learned in the course through discussion of the negotiation process and outcomes.
Integrate the concepts from class discussions and readings.
Each memo should include at least three references of the readings from class.
Depth, this analysis should be more than a simple recapping of the planning document concepts or a play-by-play account of the negotiations.
Learning, explicitly address what you would do differently if you could do it again.
