1. This is revised instruction for Jane Eyre Short Report: while this is potentially interesting you are covering too much ground in your discussion. I’ve attached the assignment sheet to this file. I’ll also cut and paste the part that discusses the approach you should you take: “The main point of these reports is that you choose a topic you are interested in and write a short argument about it with a thesis that you support by using examples….In a literary analysis, your job is to analyze some feature of the work, such as the theme(s), imagery, symbolism, characterization, etc. ” NOTE: You want to choose A TOPIC, not SEVERAL TOPICS. Otherwise, you’re covering too much ground and it isn’t focused enough. Each of your paragraphs could be its own paper topic. For example, family or religion. Religion might be a very fruitful discussion, especially as Mr. Brocklehurst and Helen Burns provide such contrasts to one another and Jane has to, in effect, choose who to follow. Symbolism, too, could occupy several pages, as the novel is RIFE or filled with many examples of symbolism. With characterization, you might be brainstorming key characteristics within Jane that influence her and then comparing them to Rochester, for example.
